mreskimopie.livejournal.comi loved watching ball after ball bang off the monster at fenway. all those balls proved to me that manny ramirez is a joke. at least one guy played worse than pudge.
sidenote...i doubt that boston's going to get as far in the playoffs unless their pitching steps up.
on our side, it still looks like craig could use some time off. i've been wondering if pena might have the stuff to cover left or right field if he's needed. it was questioned if DY could play outfield and he's done a fine job each time he's started in LF, maybe Carlos could do the same. I think Pena needs to have more starts in a position b/c he is a good man on D. Shelton, the way he's starting to swing at high balls makes me think that he needs a little time to get his head right.
I was glad to see Nook start today... even though I was watching from NESN, and the girl they had read our lineup got his name wrong. I was watching his swing, and he's picked up that sweeping swing I see Vance use all the time, and that may be the culprit behind all his flyouts. Sure, it's no problem if he hits a fly to move a runner up, but when there's no one on, he needs to find gaps on line drives and ground balls and get on base and make the other team nervous with how fast he is.
I'm predicting 2 out of 3 going into Clevland. That's if, and only if our pitching is on the way we all know it can be to shut down the offense. I saw highlight of Sizemore stealing home against the Jays the other day and I just said "damn.... the Jays never saw that coming." It gave me a new idea on strategy: 3-2 count, the guy throws a breaking ball, send the guy on third to try and steal home. It looks to me like except on defense, we're not using our gus who have speed as effectively as we should. MacDonald, Infante, Granderson, Inge, Nook, they need to steal more bases. Craig took a base today and I loved it.
