This article was pretty enlightening, and I just thought you'd all like some insight into the clubhouse right about now.

http://www.usatoday.com/sports/baseball/al/tigers/2008-05-19-paper-tigers_N.htm

an excerpt:
"It's so relaxed in here," says Sheffield, who is hitting .189 with two home runs and eight RBI as he struggles with right shoulder pain. "I don't know if that means that we don't have a killer instinct or we're just a real loose team. I've never seen anything like it."

'Stale and stagnant' atmosphere

Sheffield looks around the clubhouse. It is two hours before game time against the Arizona Diamondbacks, and video is being shown of Dan Haren, the opposing pitcher.

No one is watching.

Cabrera, who had never faced Haren, is asleep in a chair. Magglio Ordonez has his back turned to the TV and is reading a magazine. A handful are playing cards.

Detroit lost 4-3, with Ordonez getting three of the six hits. The loss provided a snapshot of the year.

... to the USA Today article posted by [livejournal.com profile] dodgers_pwn  earlier today is being broadcast (heavily edited) and talked about on 97.1FM now. I wouldn't normally plug a broadcast, but I think the comments are fairly important judging this team, our response to how Leyland looks tired, and the comments to the post with the article. Also, Leyland was very upset. Hopefully you can all hear it now or the audio comes online later.

*EDIT*
Audio has been uploaded as an mp3 on 971theticket.com here. Enjoy all four and half minutes of it.

Shitty ex-pitcher trashes team and manager, article is written about poor clubhouse presence.

Leyland is called out, gets infuriated, gets passionate.

Team responds and beats the stuffing out of an awful pitcher, Tigers win.

So, now, I want a list of all the crappy players that Leyland has sent away. Get them talking! I bet Byrdak has a thing or two to say (although probably not cause Byrdak isn't a dipshit like Grilli)
