Yeah. It'd be nice. But look at it if the season were to end today. When's the last time the AL Central had a wild card team? It's gotta be before the Tigers were in the division. And the BoSox and Yankees both out of the playoffs (and just generally not looking that good)? It's reminiscent of that year the Lions were 4-0 and the Packers were 0-4 or 1-3 or something like that a few years back.
Yeah, I agree with you on the White Sox. I do not think they will hold up anyways. They did something similar in 2000 where they were red hot out of the gates and crashed. They did win the AL Central that year by default, but Seattle smoked them in the Divisional Playoffs. I think they'll do something similar this year too.
Professional ball players are just that---professional. If Bobby can't handle the criticism, then maybe he should find a new job... in fact, if he can't keep his batting average higher than MY FRIGGIN WEIGHT, maybe he should find a new job.
If I performed at my job like he does at his, I'd be fired, and trust me, people would be saying what a crappy job I did.
Bobby is trying, and he is better than you or I could ever be. It's pretty sad when you stick with a team that wins 43 games out of 162 and you give them your everything and as soon as you hit a slump they turn their back on you.
I am just glad that everytime I hit a slump my family and friends don't turn their backs on me.

Apparently you did not read my comment the first time so I reposted it for you. And it's not about refusing to boo at him, it's about respecting what he has gone through, what he has done for this team and backing him up when he isn't doing his best. You can say that he has never had a winning season and that is the "facts" but it is also a "fact" that he was the only major league player on a team of minor leaguers for ten years. I agree that he isn't doing well this year, but you can't ignore what he has gone through in this organization his entire career. I am sure you are perfect in everything you do and that is why you are booing someone that is making 8.85 million dollars. You must be way better.
I've never discredited him for sticking with (what was) a sucky organization. You're villainizing me, when all I've done is boo a crappy player. You're turning what I've said into something I haven't said.
at a game i recently attended against the Indians, he was pinch hitting in the bottom in the 9th with men on and down a run. There were about three assholes around me who were on a crusade to heckle Bobby in this at bat. Mind you, we were close enough for their taunts to be heard by him. at that point, i couldn't tell whether these people wanted us to win or want just to see higgy suck to make themselves feel better. it was one of the most disgusting displays by tigers fans i've seen in a long time.
i always boo him at opening day when he's introduced as a slam against the organization (randy smith especially), but i always cheer his at-bats. there's no need to make everything personal with the guy. you would probably suck at your job too if you had thousands whining about your paycheck everytime you tried to do it.
Since I live in Michigan for now but am originally from Chicago, I have to put in my two cents. I'm officially a CUB fan but since I grew up on the southwest side of Chicago, I went to a lot of Sox games growing up. Living in Michigan, I LOVE watching the Tigers. I affectionately call them the Tiggers. However, I don't see the Sox fading. I've watched a few games, and quite honestly, the pitching is solid. Buherle and Garland have been lights out. I see them doing a few hiccups throughout the season, but they'll win the Central. The Royals are hapless, the Indians have too many question marks, the Tigers will scratch and claw (pun intended) , and I think the Sox finally have an answer for the Twinkies. Playoffs might be another story. Also realize, the Sox have held the lead in EVERY game this season so far. That's not an aberration.

I refused to boo at him last year. I was giving him the benefit of the doubt that he would bounce back...
He let me down.

Date: 2005-05-10 12:27 am (UTC)Plus, they have one regular batting over .300. The pitching is going to have to keep this up all year, and I just don't see that happening.
