Well....

When you're the dumbest team in baseball, you shouldn't be surprised when more intelligent teams beat you.

Leyland isn't going to get fired, and neither will DD, but after this season, Leyland probably should be. The team consistently made unacceptable mental errors all season, and that's the reason they lost today. I don't know if it's necessarily Leyland's fault, but that seems like the kind of thing a coaching staff should be taking care of.

Oh well, go get 'em next year.

In recent weeks especially, Leyland has made some moves that seem absolutely baffling. Tonight's game was another example of that. Sometimes I wasn't sure if Leyland was trying to lose or whether dementia had set in. Santiago beats out a bunt and so you put in Adam Everett as a pinch runner to replace the guy who just beat out a bunt?!! Rodney?! Four innings of Rodney?!

In a way, I'm disappointed with the outcome of the season. But really, I'm not surprised. The Tigers didn't play well enough to deserve the championship.

I think Leyland had an early tee time.

Remember, a lifetime ago, when all they needed to do was win 2-of-4 to win the division? Watching them was like watching the, say, 2002 Tigers at the end of the season, just a bunch of bums playing out the string. Meanwhile, the Twins are beating Zack Grienke. That's my big problem. I don't know if it's Leyland's fault per se or if they just have the wrong kind of players, and I know it's a horrible cliche, but where's the fire? Where's the drive? If that's how they played with the division on the line, yeesh.

And yeah, they played tougher last night. But last night it was about the other Tiger problem, pissing away opportunities left and right.

I agree. I usually roll my eyes when people call for the firing of coaches and managers after a loss, but Leyland's choices throughout the entire season have been ludicrous and hurtful to the team.

Leyland...

I actually disagree. Although I don't think using Rodney for four innings was brilliant, the fact of the matter is, it seems he was thinking ahead. He put faith in his offense to get the job done. So it didn't. He saved his pitchers to give them a slim chance to pitch well tomorrow, should they have made it. Meanwhile, Gardy desided to play match up tossing out pitchers like they were duplicate baseball cards. His offense didn't win him the game, and I'm not going to blame the umps for questionable strikeouts and non-hit batters...though I probably should.

None-The-Less (and God, please let this be the only time I have to EVER say this...) GO YANKS!!!!

The fact of the matter is the Tigers SHOULD have taken care of their necessary wins LAST WEEK instead of forcing the tie-breaking game. They fell apart down the stretch (which has happened before) and couldn't hold on.

The Twins are playing amazing baseball right now, and we still forced them into extra innings. There were so many times last night where the game could have gone one way or another. Someone had to lose, and ultimately it was us. I'm mad that we don't get to see any playoffs with Detroit in them, but I can't say the Twins don't deserve it. We had all kinds of chances to clinch it ourselves, and we just didn't. Oh well, so sad, better luck next year and all that.

Yeah. let's all blame Leyland, because he put down the "don't bother hitting in the clutch" sign.
